God of War in some ways actually reminds me a bit of Legend of Zelda, and that may contribute to my opinion.Īlso, I think that No More Heroes is something of a gem. While button-mashing can get you through probably the lowest difficulty, spamming Square Square Triangle every fight on the higher difficulties won't serve you very long. While ultimately much more simplistic than Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry, it's overall execution, and the sheer brutality that I still didn't feel from even Ninja Gaiden 2, just make it a satisfying kind of experience. In terms of gameplay, the game doesn't focus solely on combat like say, Ninja Gaiden, and instead has a nice mix of puzzles, platforming, and combat elements that to mee feels like a mix between Prince of Persia and Onimusha, with its own flair. While it does have most of the staple elements that DMC pretty much pioneered, it also has it's own balance in terms of gameplay. I'd classify God of War as more of an action-adventure in terms of genre. I swear, if you play this game and decide to have a challenge on your first playthrough, don't do the typical gamer's mistake and choose Hard Mode. I had to try about 6 times over and over on the second boss on Normal Mode! Even the normal difficulty setting doesn't show mercy. This game is so hard you'd rather burn yourself alive while grinding your legs up to your knees, then later be stabbed to death with a rusted knife than to choose "yes" when it asks if you want to continue, only to die in a matter of seconds (and the loading time makes it worse). No clear story, nothing innovative, and puzzles aren't that hard to comlete, but this game is just frustration at its best when it comes to killing your enemies. Although it's not the best video game out of the bunch, it is pretty much the best Hack n' Slash game out of the list.

Just to get this thread going, I'll have to choose Ninja Gaiden.
So which is your favourite one out of the other choices? Of course these games are recent, but I don't think there were many well-known games of this particular genre in the past generations. Since this is a forum that houses many gamers of many types, I would like to know your most favourite Hack n' Slash game out of the ones listed above. We all like to play video games that involve brain-twisting puzzles, innovative gameplay, and complex plots, but what about games that are just simply about killing as many enemies as you can? Not many gamers pay attention to these games, and apparenty neither do game journalists (ex.
